Nordyne fault codes
Hi guys, haven't been here for a while, but once again, I need your help. I installed a Broan (Nordyne) KG7TC120D-45D in the fall of 2010. Tonight, my customer called with a no heat complaint. The inducer starts up on a call for heat, and then shuts down in apx. 20 seconds, with no ignition trials. The red light goes out, and I am left with a steady green light, indicating "motor trouble". So I go the the motor control board, which has a red & green light. Both lights are on steady on the call for heat, but after apx. 20 seconds, the red light starts blinking with the green light remaining steady. I get no blower activity at all. Also, the blower does not come on with the thermostat fan switch in the "on" position. I replaced the main control board, just because it was the only part I had on the truck, but as i suspected, it made no difference in the performance. I was getting 120 volts from the primary control board, and no limits (the single blue wire connected to the motor control board0 were open. My questions are, does anybody know how to interpret the fault codes on the blower control board (I could find no legend for them) & what is probably wrong? Thanks

I'm not familiar with the codes, but if it faulted that soon, could be the pressure switch...just a guess.

try spinning the motor by hand. both times i've gotten that code, the motor was locked up.

On the main board, I see no code for steady green, no red. Since the motor board is saying motor fault, I'd change the motor. We've had a few of the larger ECMs go bad in the G7s.

Hmmm, have not worked on any new Nordyne equipment but its funny because your probelm sounds almost like an issue I had with a Trane Furnace (about 8-10 years old). It did almost the same thing where the ECM inducer would energize, pull pressure switch, light off and after about 30 seconds the inducer RPMs would slow down below 1st stage RPM and open pressure switch. Once it did that, it would just steady run at REALLY low speed, while the IFC blinked there was still a heat call and blower also energized. It finally did blink a motor issue fault. I ended checking all the wiring from board to motor and condemned inducer. Trane sent me a new inducer, new IFC board, AND all new wiring to completely re-wire the entire furnace. They sent a service bulletin with it explaining some issues they have had with these. So, I don't know if its the same type of inducer on your Nordyne that was used on this Trane but, if the board is blinking motor trouble, its most likely your inducer motor.
- It means the same thing - Motor Fault.

As others have said - change motor.
Instead of learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.

if it went into a lock out the board wont let the fan come on at all because its a safty lock out, now you pressure switch tube may be cloged causeing it to go into a hard lock out or the pressure switch is bad you may want to confirm that before you replace the ecm .. i would also check the info provided by Rundawg and kep in mined motor lock out may also mean your inducer motor .. i have not looked in the book to see good luck

The inducer on that sucker is a 2 speed PSC. If the PS doesn't close you'll get a code for that, green flash red on.
Yes, Trane is getting rid of the ECM inducers on the T*X and T*Y models so you have to replace with a 3 phase inducer, board & wiring harness. Customers aren't happy as the kit is salty and several hours labor adds up fast.

Thanks Rundawg for the link for the codes. I tried like crazy to find that link on the internet, with no success! I've ordered the new motor, and will let you all know if that fixed the problem. It is a little hard to explain to a customer who has a brand new furnace that they can't have heat for 3 days cause their part has to be brought in from the warehouse, but I guess that is the consequence of goin high-tech. Back in the day, we could get almost any furnace up & running somehow, in a pinch.

Ask your supplier to pull one out of a new furnace. waiting 3 days for a part is unacceptable for you and the customer (especially if you installed the furnace)

- Right answer right here. Just went through this last week. If warranty get motor and board, they told me they will cover both.
